EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DJ LINA K

To all the people, I wish them to  experience having goosebumps listening to their favorite tracks. It’s a natural feeling that nothing can replace!

DJANEMAG :  HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN MUSIC? 
LINA K :  I’ve been listening to electronic music since I was 11 years old, attended my first festival at the age of 15, and DJing fro 11 years now.​

DJANEMAG : WHAT WOULD PEOPLE BE SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT YOU? 
LINA K : Well, I am a mom day time and a dj night time hahah. But I think I am not the only one there.

DJANEMAG : HOW MUCH BETTER HAS THE INDUSTRY GOT FOR FEMALE DJS? 

LINA K : Being in China, I don’t really feel pressure of being a female deejay. If you are good you’re good, no matter if you’re man or woman. I am trying, though, to support female DJs here, organizing a monthly event called Techno Is A Woman. It’s only girls behind the decks!

DJANEMAG :  WHAT IS YOUR ATTITUDE TO DJS RANKINGS? 

LINA K : Honestly, I don’t care about DJ ranking... Never tried to get into one. If I am in, that’s ok; if not - that’s ok too! I don’t really care much about it.

DJANEMAG : HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE AESTHETIC OF YOUR MIXES? HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU USUALLY SPEND SELECTING MUSIC? WHAT INFLUENCES YOUR CHOICE? 

LINA K : I do love playing heavy techno and fast BPMs (beats per minute). You could say it’s my favorite style. But just “boom boom boom” can be boring, so I try to combine it with some breaks, electro, a bit of leftfield house, some melodies as well... Still, I also love to play more groovy music combining indie dance with melodic house and Afro beats. In the end, it all depends on the party I am playing on and the club I am playing in.

Well, I spend all my free time selecting music for upcoming gigs; even if I’m not playing I do the track selections just for myself. I enjoy playing some unreleased tracks from different producers - it makes my sets more interesting.

What influences my choice? - nothing! I have couple of sources I am buying the tracks from, which is not Beatport..

DJANEMAG CHINA: Is there a DJ/artist you dream to do a collaboration with? 

LINA K : My dream is to release my album on трип records, Nina Kraviz’s record label.

DJANEMAG CHINA: What are your favorite clubs you've performed in?

LINA K :  Since I’ve been playing only in China I can mention a couple of clubs where I had the best sets: it’s, of course, Celia Shanghai and Lantern Beijing, also 44KW here in Shanghai.
